Gyesan-dong Ginkgo Tree

  • Location : 943, Gyesan-dong, Gyeyang-gu
  • It is estimated that Gyesan-dong Gingko is 500 years old. As a gigantic tree with 27m in height and 10m in girth, one is she-tree bearing fruits and the other is he- tree whose inside is empty as it was struck by lightning. It is assumed that this tree was a sceni tree in Bupyeongdohobu Government Building.
Gyesan-dong Ginko Tree (Incheon Metropolitan City's Memorial Material No. 11)

Currently located in the playground of Bupyeong Elementary School, this tree is deemed to have been planted for landscape when Bupyeong Dohobu (County) Hall was built in the 18th year of King Taejong's reign (1418). It is approx. 580~600 years old with 25 m height. Ginko tree that is a kind of deciduous coniferous tree was normally planted in the garden of Hyanggyo or temples. Ginko (Eunhaeng) is reported to have been named from silver-white seed that remains when flesh is removed although its appearance looks like apricot. As its leaf is divided into two parts that looks like webfoot of duck, it is called Abgaksu in China. Its fruit is used for food and pharmaceutical uses and its wood is used for valuable furniture.

  • Car : Go straight ahead in the Gyeongin Expressway Bupyeong IC toward Gyeyang→Turn to the right at Gyesan Samgeori,→Go(50m) to the right at Gyesan1-dong Office→Gingko in Bupyeong Elementary School
  • Subway : Incheon Subway No1 line→Get off at Gyesan Station→Come out to Gate No3 →Walk(50m) at Gyesan1-dong Office→Gingko in Bupyeong Elementary School.
  • Bus : No 30 at Bupyeong Station→Get off at Gyesan Samgeori→Turn to the right→ Walk(50m) to the right at Gyesan1-dong Office→Gingko in Bupyeong Elementary School
