Long ago there lived Lee Chal and the Yul brothers, from Lee's family in Jeonju, who were descendents of Prince Imyoung-daegun, son of King Sejong. When their father was ill, they took extraordinary care of him with sincerity and patience. They tried to nurse him back to health by bringing various rare medicine and they even took turns biting their own fingers to drip blood into his mouth when he was in critical condition. But, their efforts were all in vain as their father finally passed away. They built a little cottage by their father's grave and stayed there for three years. After that, they became more faithful to their mother because they were sorry about their father's death and their lack of faithfulness toward him. When they were in their late thirties, their mother also became ill and they went to great lengths to save her, just as they did their father. But, again their efforts were in vain as their mother also passed away. They rebuilt a little cottage near her grave and also stayed there for three years. Their faithfulness became known throughout the nation and King Hyeonjong erected faithful monuments as a tribute.
