Located 200m north from the current Gyeongin National University of Education, Bupyeong (Suju) Hyanggyo was built at San 4 Oryu-dong Gyeyang-gu according to the King's Order in the 5th year of King Injong's reign in Koryo Dynasty (1127) when all the hyanggyos in 56 ju throughout the country are deemed to have been built at the same time. Annam Dohobu which was a new name of Suju moved to Gyesan-dong (Onsu-gol) in the 19th year of King Euijong's reign (1165). Therefore this Annam Hyanggyo also moved to the south of Mt. Annam (presently near Hanwoori Apt. Gyesan 2-dong) at that time.
As the county's name was named as Bupyeongbu in the 2nd year of King Chungseon's reign in Koryo Dynasty (1310), it was renamed as Bupyeong Hyanggyo. In the midst of Byeongjahoran(1636), Munmyo building was burnt down, but restored at the current place in the 14th year of King Sukjong's reign (1688). Bupyeong Hyanggyo consists of education facilities at front such as Myeongryundang, Jaesil, etc. and Munmyo facilities backside such as Daeseongjeon, Dong/suhmu, which is the traditional shape in 'Jeondang Humyo'. Daeseongjeon, Dong/suhmu, and Dongsuhjae where the ancestors are shrined are built with gambrel roof, but Myeongryundang is with a hipped and gabled roof. Five (5) Chinese Saints and 18 Korean sages are shrined at Seokjeon Daeje, which is held on the first day, February and October of the lunar calendar respectively every year.
